Re: suggestion for a 2 year Strategic Plan Initiative 2006-2008
I would like to recommend the Common Council consider pursuing a Formal Traffic Calming Program on our residential and collector roadways. This is a growing trend among communities nationwide. One of the most frequent complaints to council members from residents is speeding traffic throughout our community. Some areas of the city consist of high density adjacent to residential, which has contributed to this problem. As development, thus, our transient population grows; I see this as a continuing problem that should be addressed sooner than later. No one wants his or her neighborhood to become a short cut for a commuter. To preserve quality of life for our neighborhoods we should examine the possibility of incorporating protective measures to ensure their safety. Traffic calming techniques such as speed tables, diverters, and rumble strips are just a few examples of strategies that can be used to accomplish this goal. (Please see attachments for more information on traffic calming). I feel this initiative fits in well with the vision of the Master Plan and I respectfully ask that you give it serious consideration.
