Current Topics for Brookfield’s South Side Last update April 15th, 2009
· WisDOT proposes changes to Bluemound Road east of Moorland Rd. See the District 7 Update page for more info including the city response to this proposal. The next WisDOT Public Info meeting is scheduled for April 22nd from 4:30-7 pm at Swanson Elementary in the Gymnasium.
· Annual Garlic Mustard Weed-Out is scheduled for Saturday, May 2nd, from 9 am - 12 noon. Wear old clothes and bring gloves. This is actually a lot of fun, a great way to get exercise, fresh air, and explore your city park. Garlic Mustard is a rapidly spreading invasive species. Hope to see you there!
· Flood Information: the history of flooding in Brookfield, how to keep your basement dry, and improve storm water drainage.
· Endicott Park Improvements (drawings): What do you think of the proposed plans? Background Info UPDATE: The Finance Committee voted unanimously to post pone this project until 2010 due to budget constraints related to the poor economy. Give me a call 780-0805 for more information.
· Calhoun Rd is now under construction. The road will only be open to local traffic only, but is closed to all traffic under the bridge. Per the contractors, connections at Burnet and Robinwood may open when conditions warrant it. I am told the contractors will reassess the situation daily. Currently continual dump truck loads are in and out of the construction zone and the crews are doing some curb and asphalt repair work in the corridor. I know this is a headache - I don’t enjoy the inconvenience either. The expected completion date for this project is August 15th - only 4 months to go.
· Results of the recent 2035 Comprehensive Plan Community Survey. Community members participated at a 10.6% response ( 1,368 surveys).
· Coyotes: This past winter there were continuing reports of coyote sightings throughout Brookfield and Southeast WI. The City does not conduct any type of on-going management program for coyotes. Residents may contact the Police Department regarding any immediate public safety concerns. As opposed to deer, coyotes are not a regulated animal and residents may live trap coyotes on their property. The Wisconsin Trappers Association maintains a "Nuisance Wild Animal Removal Referral Handbook" that lists individuals who can provide assistance in this area. The list is available on the association website at www.wistrap.org/ADClist.html.
